Consumer Debt Answer Clinic
Date(s) - 13/02/2015
Most debtors facing debt collection lawsuits are very confused and do not know their rights. Many worry that they will lose government benefits, or are hopeless because of constant calls from debt collectors. Some wrongly believe that bankruptcy is the only option. For people facing debt collection lawsuits, Neighborhood Legal Services runs an “answer clinic” to help litigants better understand their options when facing debt collection lawsuits, and to help file answers to those lawsuits when appropriate. If you have been sued for a consumer debt, such as an unpaid credit card bill, this workshop can help you decide if and how to respond to the lawsuit. The workshop will take three to four hours, and no children are allowed. You must bring the “summons” and “complaint” you received. You will not be admitted to the workshop without your documents. These clinics occur on most (but not all) Friday mornings, and require an appointment.
Please call 1-800-433-6251 to see if you are eligible and make an appointment. If there is no clinic available, you will be provided with other free options for assistance.
